Types of Wood
Different kinds of wood is used for the small-scale manufacture of
wooden napkin rings. The ones commonly used are:
Saharanpur Wood Industry
Backed with a working force of 20,000 workers, goods worth about Rs
10 to 12 crores are produced in Saharanpur. There are about 300
units currently operating in Saharanpur, out of which nearly 50 are
partially mechanized. There is also a 2,400 cubic feet capacity
plant for seasoning wood. This serves as a common facility for the
scientific seasoning of timber.
Already a good foreign exchange earner, there is great scope for
further export growth of hand-crafted goods such as napkin rings,
particularly if product innovation could concentrate on more utility
products and delimit areas of decoration.
